How do you become a surrogate mother?

i have been looking it up and wondering if anyone has done this and what their experience has been. i don't have any children of my own (i'm not even sure i want to have kids) but i would have no problem having a baby for someone else. is it better to go through an agency or have it be private? any info would be appreciated!
