Was there anything so far in the news in 2009...?

Other than a new U.S. president has there been anything that has been positive? We have lost so many famous people, all the middle east problems, Iran with nuclear capabilities etc... what in the news was really positive? I hate to say this but was Susan Boyle really the hit story for 2009?
