Bulldogs??? about them?

I have a 6 year old female Bulldog. The first thing I should mention, is that they are only called a Bulldog, not an English Bulldog. This is what the breed is called by the AKC. I can tell you that this breed can have a ton of health issues, especially hip and joint problems. Other concerns are eye problems, skin issues including allergies breathing problems, and they have a tendency to become overweight very quickly. They are not a very active breed, but do need exercise, as any breed does. The problem being that they can't take heat or cold very well at all, so, depending on weather conditions, a brisk walk is not always possible. Our bulldog get along well with anybody, children included, and also with other dogs. We have 2 other dogs and 2 cats, as well. If you are thinking about getting a Bulldog, it is VERY important to find the BEST breeder that you can. It is very popular breed right now and people are breeding them for profit, instead of doing all the required health testing before breeding. Approximately 87% of all Bulldogs have Hip Dysplasia, whether mild or severe. Ours has severe HD and costs a fortune to maintain her medical needs. A well bred, pet quality Bulldog will usually cost somewhere in the area of $2000.00-$3000.00, well worth every penny because you will be getting a healthier dog, to begin with, instead of spending thousands and thousands of $ for medical bills in the future. (Trust me, I know something about this. We adopted ours at 5 months old and was dianosed with severe HD at 6 months) They are not the easiest to train....not stupid, just very stubborn. Their wrinkles need to be dried very well after bathing or getting wet. Also, they do snore like crazy and can have pretty bad gas. They're not a breed for everyone. If you are on a really tight budget, this is not the breed for you. They are high maintainence. Sorry this is so long, but you asked, and I responded with my experience. Good luck to you is you choose this breed. Remember, the breed is simply called a Bulldog.
